New Year’s Resolution

Posted 12:36 am

I’ve never been one to make resolutions of any kind, especially due to some sort of traditional expectation that I should do so. Normally my New Year’s resolution is not to make one, and I’d say I’ve either succeeded (because I haven’t) or failed (because that one counted). This year, however, I’ve had something of an epiphany.

You see, I realized that while resolutions are made in an effort to improve one’s life, one need not resolve to sacrifice anything. Sure I could lose some weight, eat healthier, go to the gym, etc…. but am I really going to do those thing and stick with it throughout the year? I could also just make myself a promise that at some point I’ll do some specific thing, like join a gym. But nah… I’m not gonna bother. Instead I’ve chosen to make a resolution that will improve my life by making it more entertained.

I like movies. Most of the time I end up buying them once their released to DVD and then I sit at home and watch them. Most of my friends have of course already seen all the good ones because they went while they still showed in the theaters. Well damnit, I’m gonna see some movies in the theaters this year. In fact, my resolution is to see a movie in the theater every weekend this year.

It occurs to me I should clarify something. There are 52 weeks in a year, so I’ll assume 52 weekends, and I will see 52 movies. I may skip a weekend because of illness, work, family, budget…. but that just means I’ll make it up the week before or after. My goal is to see 52 movies. Specifically attend 52 showings of movies. I may end up seeing the same movie more than once simply because nothing better is showing. I hope this won’t happen too often but I’m not promising to sit though something I don’t want to see just so I can say I watched an extra movie.

So 52 movies it is and it starts on Jan 3, the first weekend of the year.

Wish me luck.
